Sumitomo HTR Z III (Our Review)
Overall Assessment
Is the Sumitomo HTR Z III better than its predecessors? Quite simply, this is the best tire in the HTR Z series. It flaunts a silica-infused tread compound that’s molded into a 5-rib asymmetric tread pattern for optimal traction.
Traction on dry and wet terrain is also improved with the aid of large shoulder blocks. There’s a continuous center rib that runs through the tire as well as tread blocks. Thus combination ensures excellent steering response and keeps the tire stable throughout the vehicle’s speed range.
The sidewall is equipped with a hard rubber filler that helps keep it rigid and prevents it from flexing. This ensures reliable cornering for spirited drivers without taking anything away from the ride’s comfort. We’ve also found this tire to boast better braking and acceleration capabilities than its predecessors. It also grips to the road like no other tire within its class.
We were surprised to find that road noise is very minimal with this tire, even at higher speeds. Best of all, the Sumitomo HTR Z III is priced very reasonably, to the point that we feel like it’s underpriced for the performance it has to offer.

- Dependable cornering performance for spirited drivers
- Offers excellent traction on dry and wet terrains alike
- Delivers a comfortable and quiet driving experience
